Dear Friends and Family,
It is with regret that I inform you that our beloved Carol is no longer with us in the physical universe (at least in the form we are familiar with).
Although she was continually weakening, she told me as early as last week that she wanted to keep fighting the cancer. And she was winning that battle. Her tumor marker numbers were still falling. But the Cachexia (wasting away) was getting worse much faster that her tumors were decreasing. She was frail and emaciated.
On Thursday, she had a seizure that last lasted multiple hours and surely caused neurological damage. There was no fun left for her at that point, and Hospice kept her as comfortable as possible. George, Mike, Tanya, her caregiver Ruth and myself never left her side.
Her niece Darcy and her family came up to say goodbye, and our family friend Bethany and her family came up to say good bye. All people my Mother would have wanted to see.
She died peacefully on Friday, August 13th. The mood in the room was purely that of gratitude. She had suffered so much the last few days, that we all wanted her to cross to the other side and be with her Mom and Dad and other close family and friends who had made the journey before her. Surely there is more for her to look forward to there than staying in a body that no longer served her needs.
We are deeply saddened when we think of our personal loss, but deeply thankful when we think about how much better it is for her.
She did not want to have a memorial service or a funeral. Instead, she wished to have a celebration of her life! In her honor, we will be having a party just the way she would have wanted it: POT LUCK!
The date is Saturday, Oct 2, and we hope you will let us know if you can make it!
My Mom was so grateful to you for reading her blogs. When she had the strength, she cherished logging on and seeing the comments you left.
Mexico was a miracle in all of our lives. She outlived Kaisers prediction for her life by an entire year, and the treatment in Mexico kept her feeling healthy for a good 8 months, which was plenty of time for her to enjoy her family and friends and think about all of the things that were important to her life. And it turned out, she had all of them.
Blessing to you from Carol, I am sure!

The Mission
The first Mission depicted on the walk way from San Diego to Mexico is that of the Mission in San Rafael.
Well, a few weeks ago, Carol decided it was also her mission to return to San Rafael. Mike and her cousin Barbara packed up her belongings after a long 6 month journey in Mexico and drove her home.
Her test results continue to be very encouraging. Her CA-125 marker is now at 316 and continually drops. But her energy level decreases constantly as well. She is not able to walk at the present time, and still sleeps most of the day.
She has a new doctor in the area (an MD) who agrees with everything we are doing. We hired the most wonderful woman, Ruth, to be a live in care-giver. Boy, is she an amazing addition to the family!
We know that many of you would like to see her, but we ask you to understand that she is very weak and not in shape to have conversations or remain awake when her body requires rest.
There will be time made each week for visitors, but it's really only a 15 minute block of time in the afternoon when she has to be up to take medicine. She is still not complaining, though she lets us know when she has pain. And if she tells us she is in pain, we really believe her, since she normally says nothing about it.
Tanya, George and Kimberly really fixed up the house and Mike's work got her a hospital bed that we keep in the living room so we can all be around her and help care for her.
Her spirits and hopes are still high that she will recovery, and we certainly know that her stay in Mexico has kept her with us far longer than was expected with traditional medicine alone. We ask for your continued prayers and understanding. She has some fantastic friends and family and she is so proud of us all.
I will update this blog with the number of the person you can reach to see if you can schedule a visit. It might take a little time to get back to you, as we will first ask Carol what she would like and then try to work it in.
All our best.

update from Seth
Hi Everyone, I am down here in Mexico with my Mom, and thought I would give you an update while I had the time. I know Carol hasn't been answering her phone or looking at her email and I know (from first hand experience) that it can be frightening not to hear anything or be able to reach her.
The move to Dali Suites in Playas de Tijuana was a brilliant one. The city is so different from downtown Tijuana. It's much more of a walking city. Just blocks from the beach, a walk to Starbucks, and even a movie theater that shows movies in English. It will be great when my Mom has the energy and strength to go walking! The grounds here at the Dali Suites are peaceful and serene.
This is the view from just outside her door:
For the last few weeks, it appeared her health was declining rapidly. Her energy all but disappeared, and her mind just could not gather the information required to communicate. But recently, her doctor took her off the pharmaceutical med she was on (or at least the homeopathic version of it) and slowly her mind is coming back to her. It is so nice to be able to hold a short conversation with her, and to have her express what she is going through and what she needs.
She had a growth on her shoulder blade that has been growing over the last 3 months. Three different doctors looked at it: her alternative doctor, her consulting doctor who combines traditional and non traditional medicine, and her regular oncologist. They all came to the same conclusion: it was just a lipoma (clumping of fat cells) and since it did not bother her, there was no reason to do anything about it.
Well, thank G-d for her ability to communicate again. As soon as she was able to, she told us it was hurting her and the pain extended to her ribs. So we scheduled a time to go into the hospital the next day with her oncologist (who is a fantastic surgeon) and have the lipoma removed.
Of course, nothing is ever that simple, and it was not a lipoma, but a tumor that extended from her rib cage into the shoulder where it was growing very large. The pain in her ribs was from the pressure of the growing tumor. They got out as much as the could without putting her through major surgery. I must say, she is the bravest person I know. I fold myself into a tiny ball when I think it's time for a tetanus shot. But she faces everything with an even keel and an air of determination.
Her primary doctor, Dr. Humiston, feels that this is one of the main reason she is still here and will beat this thing. Most people go into panic mode and their body reacts to everything without processing it. And there is only so much you can do with your survival instincts when you are constantly controlling your whole system with them.
Anyway, we were obviously not happy to hear about this tumor. So far, all of the tumors she has had have been hidden to us visibly. Inside her lungs, inside her ovaries, and so on. We were worried that it meant the tide was turning and the cancer was getting worse. Which is so strange, because her weekly blood tests show the tumor marker numbers significantly decreasing!
Including today, by the way! Last week's tumor marker was at 441. Today is was at 409!! In just a month and a half, her tumor markers have declined by over 150 points...no small feat at all!!
We are still working hard to get her weight up so she has some energy reserves. Dr. Humiston is looking into a product called PROTOCEL which he is just now learning about (and Mike has been learning about for a few months as well). Call it a coincidence, or call it divine intervention, but the same day Dr. Humiston told me he was looking into PROTOCEL for my Mom, was the same day Mike told me he ordered it for her.
So he just overnighted it to us and on Tuesday when we see the doctor again, we'll see if we are about to start that leg of the journey. But there is hope, and there is plenty of love. My Mom is sorry she has been unable to talk and communicate with everyone. She loves you and is so grateful for your love and support. She also looks forward to having you over to dinner when she is happy, healthy and back home in San Rafael.
The whole family would also very much like you to send some positive energy to her brother Norton, who is courageously fighting his own battle with cancer. We have no doubt whatsoever that he will win the war and return to happy,a healthy life with his wife and kids. Your prayers and thoughts are so very welcomed in an effort to see this cancer scare for both Carol and Norton pass quickly and easily.

We have hired Veronica, the Assistant Manager at the hotel, to help Carol with the food prep and the day to day chores (like her large assortment of meds). Veronica is fantasic! So friendly and reliable. She checks in on my Mom 3 times a day and cooks her really yummy, healthy meals.

the healing continues.......
Dear family and friends,
Here I am at the Dali Suites in Playas de Tijuana. I like it here, it is light and airy, and close to the ocean. Most of the people that are staying here are patients of Dr. Munoz (who is not my primary doctor, but he consults with Dr. Humiston in my case). Michael is down here with me at the moment, and is feeding me very well to try to increase my weight. I am trying to eat multiple times throughout the day. I am getting protein shakes and smoothies in between meals. My energy level is getting better, although I am still very tired and weak. I Had a transfusion on Tuesday, and my blood count was the best that it has ever been according to my blood test on Thursday. My CA125 blood marker continues to lower....this is great news! Thank you all for the support and healing energy that you have been sending my way.
Love, Carol

Time for a change
Much as I love Sonia and Caroline, we've moved to Dali Suites in Playas Tijuana. It should be a nice change. Tanya is here doing all the work.

Good news!
Dear Family and Friends,
Started the New Castle Virus (nose drops) and then went back on 1/4 Thalidomide. Also taking SOD Super Oxide Dismutase (also on the Greek test)
Seth asked the doctor to do fasting blood tests Thursday so we can track the CA 125 cancer marker. Last week it was 535. This week it went down to 475! This is good!
I'm still weak but each day is different.
Love,
Carol

Nice Mothers Day Weekend
Hi Family ad Friends,
The beach at Rosarita was glorious! The beach house was amazing!
But I spent the time on the couch, sleeping. Too much Thalidamide. Possibly too much liquid zeolites too.
So I stopped all meds, and Monday I talked with Dr. Humaston about it. We'll hold off on the Thalidamide for a while, and I started the New Castle virus on Tuesday.
Bernie is here with me, through Monday. She is very supportive. She says I'm looking great. I'm still feeling tired and weak, but my blood count is holding up.
Thanks for following,
Love, Carol

Change in supplements
Finally, Dr. Humiston got some samples from Dr. Munoz's office, to muscle test me on. Michael came yesterday (Tuesday) so he was my muscle for the testing, and we tested everything.
So last night was my first night on Thalidomide (thank goodness I can't get pregnant!) Not only does it attack the cancer, but it makes you sleepy!
Today I get SOD (SuperOxide Dismutase), Artesunate as an IV drip, and liquid zeolight. Monday, after my weekend with Tanya, Mike, Seth , and Tanya's mom Yolanda, I will start the Newcastle virus. Because I'm losing blood, I will also take a chinese compound that stops internal bleeding.
I'm also taking liquid copper, humic compound, thyroid, Candida maintenance... I think that covers my current list! We're attacking the cancer! Yea!
I'm looking forward to the weekend with the family! Hope you have a happy Mother's Day!
Hugs to you all,
Carol

Next Blood Transfusion and Greek Test Results
Well, the sonogram idea didn't work, since the machine was only for breast cancer.
The test from Greece is back, and we'll go over the results this week. Naturally, the cancer responds well to ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), which I get 6 times a week! It also responds to quercetin, artesunate, Poly-MVA, ellagic acid, mistletoe, superoxide dismutace, amygdalin, and c-statin.
My cousin Patty was here for a few days, and left very pleased with Sonia and the bed and breakfast. She also gave me a manicure and pedicure and a very nice, easy care hair cut. Tanya is coming next, and then Ellen (sister-in-law) and Darcy (neice).
I needed more blood, so had a transfusion on Thursday for 2 units. It seems to be kicking in slowly. I can now think, but I am still shuffling slowly instead of dancing. My appetite is good and the food is good. Sonia is making me a protein shake for a between meal boost, and still making delicious soups for me (I'm very spoiled). One of my medicines requires that I have red meat at least 3 times a week, and she is doing that for me too. Yum!
Well, that's the news! Seems like I saved it up for you. I'll keep you informed when my treatment changes now that we have the Greek Test results.
Thanks for your support, and love to you all! Carol

Cancer is not progressing!
Dear Family and Friends,
The XRay comparison shows no significant change in the lung tumors since February. This is good news!
Seth is here now, and he and I met with Dr. Munros to consult on the cancer. Dr. Munros wants me to take a blood test and send it to Greece for analysis. Altho expensive, what comes back is a complete analysis of which chemo will work, and which alternative therapies will be effective. So Monday I am taking the blood test and the results will come back in about 10 days. We discussed this with my doctor, Dr. Humiston, and we agreed that I will skip the chemo (chemo kills the cells, but we need to be sure the body is healthy, and chemo doesn't do that). Dr. Humiston says that if I had had chemo, I wouldn't be alive now.
Also on Monday I will get a baseline Sonagram (ultra sound), to make it easier to track changes with the cancer.
So Seth will leave Wednesday, and then Bernie will come and then Patty. Lot's of company!
Thanks for checking my blog. My energy level is still low (I am still anemic) and the only pain I have is when the floating tube from the Denver Shunt has gotten out of place.
Love, Carol

Results are in
Dear Family and Friends,
The results are in. My blood level, while still anemic, is not low enough to make me this tired. However, one of my supplements, when no longer needed by the body, can do that. So that supplement is off the list, and by Thursday should be out of my system.
The CT comparison showed that since September, the lung lesions have grown in size. But since we have no data points in between, we don't know whether the growth was pre January or since then. We do have a chest X-Ray from February, so tomorrow I will do another x-ray and have the radiologist compare them.
George left today, and Tanya arrived. She already had me do a breathing exercise and lasered my back. Now she is ready for Dancing with the Stars and American Idol.
If you want to come down and visit, please let me know and we'll contact Seth, the scheduling guy. The weather has been good and the food is always excellent!
Love, Carol

Earthquake in Baja
Yep, the ground rolled and the house shook, but no damage. Then about 3 more tremors. Since I'm staying home today (home at Sadie's Bed and Breakfast), I can't check to see if there was any damage to any local buildings. But we are fine!
Tomorrow I hope to pick up the comparison report of the CT scans done last week and Sept 4, 2009. That will tell us if there has been any changes in the lungs. But I've spent the last 3 days napping, so I'm probably low in blood count again. I'll have a blood test on Monday and know the results on Tuesday.
I'll report again once I have something to report.
Love, Carol

Blood count is up!
Dear Family and Friends,
My blood count is slightly up! Great news! The platelet count is now normal, and I am not that far from a normal blood level. Well, this isn't really my blood yet. This is the transfusion, which I'm pretending is mine!
Changing of the Guard: Bernie came and went. Now Mike has come. Bernie wants me to eat more to regain some of the weight I have lost, and Mike wants me to begin moving around to regain some of the muscle that has atrophied. Mike walked me down the stairs today after my treatment, and just walked me 2 times by the pool.
Mike leaves Monday, and George comes Wednesday. Then George leaves the following Tuesday and Tanya comes down.
This is the best day I have had in awhile. I had the CT scan this morning, and now Dr. Humiston can see what the changes have been to my cancer.
I may be here for a while more, but I'm dreaming of being home and seeing you all.
Love, Carol

Teeth out! Transfusion in!
Dear supporters,
Tuesday was the day of my dental appointment to have my root canal teeth removed. My brother Norton and his wife Ellen arrived on Monday to be here with me. Well, folks, I was so well sedated that I didn't feel very much at all, and by Wednesday, I felt pain free. I will have gaps for those teeth for about 2 months or so, and by then I will be very good at chewing fine with my front teeth.
Today (Friday) I will get 2 units of blood. Just to give me a boost. My blood count is at 8.6 or so, and explains why I am dragging all the time. So Ellen and Norton will have the day off.
They leave on Saturday, then Bernie comes on Sunday. She leaves on Friday, then Michael will come for the weekend... etc.
Yesterday Sonia took me for a manicure, so my fingernails will look nice while I am getting my treatments.
Hope you are all well! Love, Carol

the ROOT of the problem? (from Seth)
Many of you have read that my Mom had her root canal teeth looked at and heard that she is having them removed. I know it sounds crazy to many of you, but the link between root canal teeth and cancer (as well as heart disease, ALS, diabetes and many other diseases) has been well documented and proven over and over again. It is REVOLUTIONARY science and we would like you to know about it.
We present you with part 1 of a paper by cancer crusader Bill Henderson. It's a long but worth while read.
Bill Henderson, Author, “Cancer-Free”
My latest career is helping people heal their cancers. At 78, this is a wonderful blessing for me. In fact, it is the most fulfilling thing I’ve done in my life and I’ve done lots of things.
After researching cancer for the last 12 years, writing three books and 135 newsletters on natural cancer healing and recording 120 of my “How to Live Cancer-Free” radio shows, I feel I’ve learned a lot. However, I’ve learned the most from talking to over 3,000 people on the phone (all over the world) about their cancers. I feel compelled to get one particular message to you. Two facts have jumped out at me from those many phone calls. They are simply :
Why is this the first time you’ve heard about this (unless you’ve been reading what I’ve written, heard my radio show or talked to me on the phone)? Well, I’ll tell you. Doctors know nothing about this. I’ve asked each of the 3,000 cancer patients I’ve talked to on the phone the same question: “Has your cancer doctor ever talked to you about your dental history?” The answer, every time, is “No.” But even more significant, 99.9% of dentists are ignorant of the two facts above about cancer and root canals…or, they are “in denial” about it, like their dental professional societies, because of the fear of liability. If you knew what I know (and am about to share with you) about root canals and the degenerative conditions they cause, you would be tempted to sue the dentist who did yours, and you’d be perfectly justified. Believe me the American Dental Association (ADA) knows this. They have a large staff of full-time lawyers whose mission apparently is to keep suppressed the connection between dental work and health.
A small cadre of dentists has courageously schooled themselves in how to detect and treat root canal problems. These are not the “mercury-free” or “holistic” dentists you see advertised in the Yellow Pages. In fact, this small group operates “under the radar” because of the persecution their brave compadres have suffered at the hands of the dental societies and State Dental Boards. I know of 30 or so of these wonderfully qualified and brave dentists. Their names have been given to me by cancer survivors who have taken my advice and addressed their root canal problems. These ladies and gentlemen are competent to help you. There are about 70 or so others worldwide who are capable of dealing with this problem. This number of 100 or so dentists is out of the 160,000 dentists and 7,400 endodontists (root canal specialists) in the U.S. alone.
Many people postpone getting their jaw evaluated by one of these competent dentists. It is common to procrastinate on dental work. It is costly, usually not covered by insurance, and often painful. This procrastination or ignorance has cost millions of people their lives. If possible, I want to help you avoid that fate. First, let me explain why I feel this is Priority One if you have cancer.
ROOT CANAL FACTS
Over 50,000,000 (50 million) teeth are “saved” in the U.S. alone every year by having a “root canal” done on them. This common name for this treatment is really a misnomer. The root canal in a tooth is the portion in the center of the tooth that goes down into the roots (usually two roots – sometimes three or even four). When a “root canal” is done by the dentist, he/she removes the nerve in the center of the tooth and the pulp which surrounds it. This nerve and pulp goes all the way down from under the “crown” of the tooth to the end of the roots in the jaw. This is usually done because the decay has penetrated the center of the tooth and a “normal” filling is impossible because it would press on the nerve. The “root canal” process has a reputation for being quite painful.
When the nerve and pulp of the tooth is removed by this procedure, it is replaced with an inert substance – usually the rubber-like “gutta percha.” The dentist attempts to sterilize the tooth before the gutta percha is inserted in the “root canal.” The object is to cut off the normal circulation of bacteria through the tooth and make it permanently sterile.
Unfortunately, this never works. I say “attempts to sterilize the tooth” because it has been proven that this is impossible. The tooth becomes a dead piece of bone in the jaw. The bacteria which were in the millions of tiny “tubules” in the dentin of the tooth (the portion between the enamel and the root canal) mutate into “anaerobic” bacteria. These are bacteria which do not require oxygen. Every root canal-filled tooth has them. No exceptions. They occur because of the structure of the root canal filling. It is impossible to eliminate them and they are 1,000 times more toxic than any other bacteria. In fact, the toxins they put out are in the form of a gas called “thio-ethers” which can easily migrate through the enamel of the tooth and down through the roots into the bloodstream. These toxins travel throughout the body, as do many of the bacteria themselves. These are responsible for most chronic degenerative conditions…not just cancer, but rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, lupus, ALS, diabetes….you name it.
EVIDENCE
The evidence of what I’ve told you above is overwhelming. Here are some examples.
Ø Dr. Weston Price, beginning in 1903, led a study by 60 prominent dentists. Their mission was to find a safe way to perform a root canal filling. In 1923, they submitted their 1,174 pages of research to the American Dental Association (ADA). The team’s conclusion: there is no safe way to do a root canal filling. Why, you ask, are 50 million of these done every year in the U.S. 87 years later? And why are they done exactly the same way they were in Dr. Price’s time? Well, it is mind boggling, but I’ll tell you. A key assumption of Dr. Weston Price’s team was something called “focal infection.” This just means that an infection somewhere in your body (your mouth, for example) can affect organs distant from it. This concept is taught in all medical schools now and has been for many years. At the time, however, it was controversial. The conservative heads of the ADA rejected Dr. Price’s team’s conclusions because they did not believe in the “focal infection” concept. You’ll find Dr. Price’s research summarized in a book called “Root Canal Cover-Up” by Dr. George Meinig, D.D.S., F.A.C.D. Dr. Meinig passed away in 2008. He was a prominent endodontist (root canal specialist). After he retired in 1993 from 50 years of practice, he discovered Dr. Price’s 1923 research report. He was horrified when he considered the thousands of people whose health he had ruined in his 50 years of practice by doing root canal fillings. As a “mea culpa,” Dr. Meinig wrote the “Root Canal Cover-Up” book and spent the last 15 years of his life trying to get his message out to people about how deadly root canal-filled teeth are. Here’s what Dr. Hal Huggins (see below) says about Dr. Weston Price’s research: “Dr. Weston Price and Mayo’s Clinic of 1910 to 1920 described finding bacterial growth in root canals that could be transferred into animals and create the same diseases the donor human had in from 80 to 100% of the animals. Heart disease, in particular, could be transferred 100% of the time. His research has since been suppressed by the various Dental Associations in the United States.”
Ø Dr. Hal Huggins, D.D.S. had his dental license taken away by the ADA in 1986. He had become too vocal and visible on the issue of the deadly nature of mercury amalgam fillings. Dr. Huggins was not particularly concerned. He had already begun his second career of researching dental toxins. He has discovered 75 different types of unique anaerobic bacteria which originate only in the mouth. Autopsies of people who died of “heart disease” have found 30 of these types of bacteria in the hearts of these people. They could have originated only in the mouth. From 1994 through 2000, Dr. Huggins with Dr. Thomas Levy, a cardiologist M.D., attempted to replicate the research done by Dr. Price but with more sophisticated testing techniques. Dr. Levy told me in 2007 when I interviewed him on my web talk radio show that he and Dr. Huggins had studied “over 5,000” recently removed root canal-filled teeth. Every one of them was taken to the lab and tested. Dr. Levy said that every single one had toxins coming out of it “more toxic than botulism.” Dr. Huggins has trained about 80 dentists on the protocol that should be used to “clean up your jaw.” For those on his list near you, you can call his office in Colorado Springs, Colorado (Mountain Time) at (719) 522-0566. You will find several articles by Dr. Huggins on the subject of root canals and other dental toxins at http://www.terfinfo.com.
Ø Dr. Josef Issels M.D. was a famous German cancer doctor. For 40 years, from 1947 until his retirement in 1987, Dr. Issels treated thousands of cancer patients. He is credited with being a “world renowned pioneer of integrative cancer treatment.” In 1993, he called Dr. Hal Huggins. In his broken English, Dr. Issels complimented Dr. Huggins for “picking up the torch” and trying to get the message about dental toxins to more people. Dr. Issels said that in his 40 years of treating cancer patients, 97% of them had root canal-filled teeth. Dr. Issels insisted that they get these teeth removed before he began their cancer treatment.
Ø Dr. Thomas Rau, M.D. is the head of the Paracelsus Cancer Clinic in Switzerland. This clinic has been one of Europe’s most prominent cancer treatment centers since 1957. For some 20 years, they have had, as part of their intake procedure for new patients, review of their jaws by the dental section of the clinic. Any root canal fillings are removed before any cancer treatment is started. In 2004, Dr. Rau became curious about the prevalence of root canal-filled teeth in his clinic’s breast cancer patients. He examined the records of the last 150 women who had been admitted to his clinic. He found that 147 of them (98.5%) had one or more root canal-filled teeth on the same meridian (Chinese meridian system) as the original breast cancer tumor. The other three had cavitation problems (see below).
Ø Dr. Robert Kulacz, D.D. S. is (was) a prominent dentist in New York. Why do I say “is (was)?” Because in 2002, Dr. Kulacz published, along with Dr. Thomas Levy M.D., a great book called “The Roots of Disease: Connecting Dentistry and Medicine.” It is available on Amazon.com. It is the best book I’ve found on the subject of root canals and other dental toxins. Dr. Kulacz describes in detail the many people whose health he restored by freeing them of their dental toxin problems. The primary theme of the book is stated in the Introduction: “It is our opinion that the evidence clearly shows that many, if not most, significant diseases get their start in the dentist’s chair.” Why the “is (was)?” Well, you can imagine how popular Dr. Kulacz became with the conventional dental community after this book was published. He was harassed and threatened to the point that he had to change his name and take his family underground. He abandoned his dental practice and took up another profession. Get the book!
Ø Dr. Dawn Ewing, N.D. is the Executive Director of the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM). For a list of the practitioners who belong to this organization who practice near you, go to their website, http://www.IABDM.org. Dr. Ewing has put together a 30-minute DVD describing with color pictures the most common dental toxin problems – root canal-filled teeth and cavitations. You can get a copy of this DVD from her for $10, including the shipping. All you have to do is send her an e-mail at: drdawn@drdawn.net. Tell her I sent you and she’ll know what DVD you want and she’ll tell you where to send the $10. She describes the root canal filling with an analogy. She says that if a surgeon took your smashed finger, cleaned out all the flesh and bone in it and stuffed it with straw, it would be a similarly ridiculous procedure to stuffing gutta percha in a dead piece of tooth bone in your jaw. She calls root canal fillings “taxidermy.” In addition to the DVD, you may want to ask Dr. Ewing for the list of questions she would use to qualify a dentist before you spend any money on him/her.
We present you with part 1 of a paper by cancer crusader Bill Henderson. It's a long but worth while read.
ROOT CANALS AND CANCER
[Part 1 of 2]
ByBill Henderson, Author, “Cancer-Free”
1) The most common cause of all cancers is root canal-filled teeth; and
2) Until a cancer patient gets rid of the root canal-filled teeth, they don’t get well.
You can take those two facts to the bank, folks.
Comfortable night last night!
Dear Family and Friends,
I had a comfortable night last night, my first in a long time. This must mean that I am healing from the surgery, although I'm still not eliminating much of the fluid.
We're watching my blood count closely, and it's time to discuss extraction of the 2 root canal teeth. I am not looking forward to that!
George leaves Monday, and Seth comes on Monday. Nice to be so well loved.
Tomorrow is my day off from being poked. The day at the clinic is usually very routine, and I've been finishing by 1 pm.
Love, Carol

update from Seth
Hi Everyone. Thank you for keeping such a close watch on my Mother. She really has been teaching me about strength lately, and she surely is an amazing woman!
Anyway, it's almost 2pm on Monday and I just got a call from Mike who is with her for her procedure. She is out of the Operating Room and everything went as expected.
She will spend the night in the hospital so they can keep her on an IV for the night making sure he has antibiotics.
This procedure should really alleviate the discomfort in her tummy, so lets put our energy into making sure it worked!
All the best,
Seth

Three Units of blood
Hi Family and Friends,
My blood level took a dive, and so the doctor ordered 3 units of blood. What a difference! Certainly explains the no energy level. I think that was Wednesday.
Today is Friday. They took out the stitches from my procedure last week to cut the adhesions and drain the liquid. And we had a little surprise - There was so much fluid built up again that the middle stitch hole started draining - a free drain! Took us a while to realize that, then we sat there slowly letting it ooze out while the surgeon came. The surgeon tried in vain to drain some more fluid his way, then he sewed up the stitches, added some super-glue to stop the leak, and we scheduled a procedure for this coming Monday. Mike will come down this time to be with me. This will take out the "Ometeum" and put in a Denver shunt. Sounds a little bigger than the last procedure, but I'm in good hands down here.
Thank you for following this saga. I hope to report good news soon!
Love,
Carol

New challenges
Dear Family and Friends,
My ascites procedure was done by an excellent surgical oncologist, who came to the office. Unfortunately, after several excursions into the peritoneal cavity, only a cup or two of fluid drained. So the next day he returned with plans to do the same procedure with the sonagram, so he could see where the fluid was. He saw that I have so many adhesions that there are small pockets. The next procedure is to make a small incision and go into that area with a scope and open some pathways in the adhesions, then insert a drain. So I'm still swollen and my feet need to be up.
Thursday I will have a dental evaluation to see if I am hiding pockets of bacteria, especially under my 2 root canals. Usually they pull all root canals, because the frequency of infections are great there. Will report in after I get the results.
My friend Kathy was here to keep me company, and now son Mike is coming Friday for the weekend. Kathy was a great companion, and even stood in the room with the first drainage procedure, so that she could be the extra pair of ears that you need when a doctor tells you stuff. Brave woman!
We are still working on getting my blood levels up, and so I still have very little energy. Or at least that is my excuse.
I'm remaining in Tijuana, getting poked every day, and being a "good girl". My lungs feel like they are continuing to heal. We'll be able to see more once the CT Scan arrives from Kaiser and we do a new CT Scan to compare to it.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and support. I long to be healthy again.
Love, Carol

Constipation or other stuff
Dear Family and Friends,
You've been listening to me complain about constipation for quite a while now. So we checked it out. First I did a magnesium laxative, but it didn't seem to empty out the bowels all the way. So then the doctor had me do the Go-Lightly thing, like before a colonoscopy, where you take a cup of the bad tasting liquid every 10 minutes, and then you evacuate all night. Yuck! But Seth is here visiting, so we did it, and my bowels were completely clear. But I'm still full!
So today, Tuesday, I had a chest X-Ray, lab tests, and a sonogram of my intestines. Seems like I am draining fluid into my intestines and they are full of fluid. This has a name, Ascites, and could be pleural effusion (lungs with fluid). So tomorrow or the following day, I will undergo a procedure to drain out this fluid, which should immediately make me feel better and not bloated all the time.
I graduated to Step 3 of the Candida pills. And am changing some of my supplements. Still not coughing very much!! What a blessing!
So another day closes. I'll take my pills and shots and etc without complaining, because I can see the results.
Love to you all,
Carol

Guest Blogger - Seth Coltan
Hi Everyone, I am guest blogging on my Mom's site because I just got back from Tijuana where I got to spend a few days with her.
And you are in luck...I am quite detail oriented. I know you come here looking for details, so let me paint them for you. But first...a little 'snapple fact': Did you know that you could feed the fish on the right hand side of this blog? Just put your mouse over the fish tank and click to drop in some food. The fish will happily eat it up.
Ok, back to the big show. I arrived in Tijuana on Friday and walked across the border to THE WILLIAM HITT CENTER where my Mom is being treated. She was just finishing up her daily IV therapy and she was quite happy to see me. I was quite happy to see her and that beautiful smile of hers. She certainly seemed to have some energy and quickly ordered me back to the waiting area to introduce myself to Ruth, who is also staying at SADIES and being treated at the HITT CENTER.
Ruth is a fantastic person, and I am so glad that she and my Mom have connected and are sharing this experience. Ruth is in her 70s and is from Mendicino (where Mike and Tanya got married). This is her second time at the HITT CENTER. The first was for breast cancer (she has no cancer cells in her body any more and attributes it to her treatment at the HITT CENTER), and now she is back being treated for Lyme Disease.
Anyway, my Mom and I went in to see her Doctor, and check to see if she needed any changes to her medication. She did need some adjustments, and the Doctor looked at her slide (they swab inside her nose to look at a sampling of her cells) and seemed pleased that she was heading in the right direction. He remarked that she had inflammation. He felt that was a good thing, though I had always heard that was bad. He told us she came in here with no activity in those cells and they have been trying to get them to show some inflammation for the last week. I am positive the Doctor knows better than I do, so I did not question that part any further. We asked how long he felt she would be in treatment for. He started looking at his calander and doing math. I was quick to point out that we were asking for an approximate date considering that we are looking for a cure, and not a cancer management strategy. He let us know that there is indeed a difference, and told us she should be in treatment for at least 6 weeks. This places her at a return trip to Marin in Early March. Well beyond the time frame she desired, but well within a reasonable limit. We are curing cancer after all. I am sure they will continue to monitor her and send her home early or keep her a little longer if things look like they are changing from our scheduled healing.
After the meeting, we shuttled in their regular taxi (driven by a nice man named Hector who picks them up both ways each day) and got to SADIES BED AND BREAKFAST. The place is amazing. It's large, comfortable, elegant, and filled with warmth and love...two things the hotels can not offer. The proprieters of SADIES are really looking out for Carol, and make sure she is comfortable and well fed. They prepare meals that are not only delicious, but also fit in with the specialized diet she is on...though I did catch her cheating once, and as my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Smolski would say: 'Shame Be On Thee'
I was delighted to see how much energy my Mom had gained. Surely she is not back to normal speed, but someone finally kicked the clutch in from these last few months. My sister in law, Tanya, had been staying with my Mom the better part of the week, and she had warned me that my Mom's energy was very low and that her body temperature was extremely high. Well, this day, we walked four flights of stairs and talked to everyone in the house without wearing down. The coughing was still there, but so many other things had improved.
Time for her to change her medication a bit, and by morning her body temperature had returned to normal. When Tanya was there, the house was freezing (there was a real winter storm). Everyone wore their jackets inside, except Carol who strolled downstairs in a short sleeve t-shirt. But not this morning. Breakfast was served while Mom wore her parka. More evidence that she is reacting to her perscribed medication, as this was an obvious reflection in the change she made the night before.
The thing about this treatment, is that each day builds upon the last. This is why I was not happy when she took a week off for a trip. But now, just a day after Tanya saw her with no energy, the time came for her body to start reponding, and it really did.
Napping is still an important part of the day, because her body is working so hard to heal that it is just exhausted. Forcing it to stay up when it really needs to refresh is not wise. So Carol is very diligent about making sure she gets the rest she needs.
On this second night of my visit (Saturday) something really cool happened. As I saw my Mom sleep during her nap, I noticed she was sleeping on her back. That may sound very small to you, but for the last 4 months she has only been able to sleep on her left hand side curled up in the fetal position. Anything else would have her coughing up a storm. This fetal position on the left was the only thing allowing her any peace. We talked about it briefly, and sure enough, this was the first time she had slept on her back. When I woke up in the morning...the sight was even better. Carol was laying on her RIGHT side! This was also a first, and another wonderful sign of changes happening in her body.
There are still some challanges, though. The Candida diet is strict. It is a hard diet to follow, though very important. My Mom has lost a whole lot of weight (and you know she did not have a lot to lose in the first place). It is critical that she puts some weight on...but this is not a diet that is accomodating to that. It is a very lean, very healthy diet. It also contributed to a heavy round of constipation for her. This would be very uncomfortable for anyone. For someone in my Moms condition who must conitinue to consume nutrients even though they have no room for it...it can be quite unbearable. But she is trooper and handling it better than I could.
Some of the meds can also cause Nausia. So each day is a balancing act. But thankfully, we know she is on the right track, healing with the right doctors, and relaxing at the right place.
Carol, as most of you know, is a care giver. She is always taking care of people, taking care of problems, and taking care of 'stuff'. If this cancer is a wake up call for anything...it's that she needs to take care of HERSELF first and foremost. That's the one positive about her treatment being far from home. She is not distracted by 'stuff' and she is finally allowing people to take care of HER. And that's awesome. The Doctors look after her medical regimen and the people at Sadies make sure she is relaxed. So there is no guessing at this game.
Once healed, she will continue to check in with the doctors every few months to evaluate her progress. So when she gets home, its even more important that she is eating right, having fun, and taking time for herself. Sounds like a perscription we should all follow.
And you are in luck...I am quite detail oriented. I know you come here looking for details, so let me paint them for you. But first...a little 'snapple fact': Did you know that you could feed the fish on the right hand side of this blog? Just put your mouse over the fish tank and click to drop in some food.

Day 2 - Tijuana
Tanya and I made it successfully down to San Diego in the wee hours Monday, January 18th. Sonia, the soul of Sadie's Bed and Breakfast, met us at the airport and took us to Tijuana, and then waited in the car for an hour so I wouldn't be stranded at Dr. Hitt's Center before it opened. Tanya continued on with Sonja to the B&B, and unpacked all my stuff for me.
So now I have completed my second day of treatment. Ozone and IV Vitamin C. Suddenly I have some color in my face and a bit of energy. Not much energy, but enough so that I don't immediately have to take a nap.
My supplements have changed. No more liquid zeolites, now I have liquid copper and liquid paladium. I'm up to the second phase of candida supplements.
And each day, my cough changes and my symptoms change. I'm still coughing, but today it is not hurting, and very little phlem is coming up. And thank goodness, my constipation seems to be over!!
Thank you all for the wonderful birthday greetings! Sonia made a desert and put a candle in it for me to blow out, and then I passed the desert to someone else at the dinner table.
Tanya is appreciating the B&B, and checked out the open air market with Sonia on Monday. And doing lot's of reading. She has signed us up for a massage on Wednesday afternoon. Sonia has a massage room and a facial room in the B&B, so now all she needs are more clients, and a bit more help around the B&B to keep up.
Tanya leaves on Friday, a direct flight on Volaris airline from Tijuana to Oakland. Seth comes on Friday and stays for the weekend, and then George will fly down on the following Monday.
Thank you for all your support! Love, Carol

Florida family reunion
Dear Family and Friends,
Florida is wonderful. Not warm, as it is experiencing this cold snap for the first few days we are here, but friendly.
My brother Norton, my cousin Barbara and husband Paul, and George and I are here visiting cousin Patty and her sweetheart Larry. We have seen Gert, my alternate mother, and Marcy and Jeff and the kidlets.
And Patty has turned somersaults to be sure that I had organic foods and bottled water and all the things I need for my new restrictive diet.
For those of you that I have been whining to about my constipation, I am still having some problems, but am no longer in pain. And I am sleeping well here.
Norton, Barbara and Paul all returned home on Sunday, so now this week it is Rest and Relaxation (and Eating). We played Yahtzee last night, and Patty won 2 out of 2 games, with a Yahtzee in each game. We went to a flea market (an annual treat for me),
We leave on Friday, and meet up with my sister-in-law Ellen, who is staying over in San Francisco just to see us. She and I will go to see Darcy and Terry and children, and then she leaves on Sunday to go back to Boston.
And I return to Mexico early Monday, with Tanya, so I can resume treatment.
Life is good! Thank you, Patty, for taking such good care of me!
Love, Carol

Coughing substantially diminished!
Yowsa, Yowsa!! After my first treatment on Saturday, I was doing some mighty fine coughing. And then on Sunday and Monday, the coughing was much less. Significantly less!
Yesterday, after my treatment, I came back to Sadie's B&B and climbed into bed and napped until dinner, ate, and then went back to bed. Today I came back and went up to the patio to eat my lunch, and here I am updating my blog. The bed is in front of me, but is not calling to me. Another Yowsa!!
So is it the candida diet? the supplements? the liquid zeolites? Sonia's cooking? the auto-immune vaccine I get shot in the butt with every morning? I don't kow the answer, but I do know that I am very happy - sure that I am at the right clinic and at the right place to be staying. I'm so pleased with the changes!
I have 8 supplements: a liquid, sublingual drops, drops to put in water, pills to take on an empty stomach, pills to take before meals, pills to take in the middle of meals. And more to come...
I'm not answering phone calls until after dinner these days, just out of priorities, and not responding to very many emails. I'm just in major gratitude. Thank you, G-d!
And thank you, Family and Friends, for being there and supporting me. I love you all very much!
Love,
Carol

Happy New Year from Tijuana
Mike and I flew down to San Diego as planned, and just as planned met Seth, who had driven down from Los Angeles to spend New Year's Day with us. We arrived at noon, and went directly to our motel, so I could lie down for awhile. Then we went for a lunch foray to a good Thai restaurant, came back for more Carol's rest time, then went to dinner at Souplantation and had great make-your-own salads. Then back to the motel for more Carol's rest and to be lasered. Watched a movie. I had no energy.
Saturday morning we repacked our things and took the motel shuttle across the border to the William Hitt Center. They gave me an Ozone treatment (take 1/2 cup of my blood, add Ozone, then give it back to me), then 1/2 hour of waiting for the ozone to circulate, then an IV drip of vitamin C. We waited around to talk with Dr. Humiston, talked about their treatments, did a bit of muscle testing on supplements (I only need one of the many supplements that I brought with me), and left with 3 new supplements and a candida diet. Well, a modified candida diet that seems to allow pasta and flour tortillas. hmmmmm.
We had called for a shuttle, and Hector appeared with his taxi to ferry us around. First we stopped at the bank for some pesos, then to a taco stand for lunch (2:30 pm), then to Sadie's Bed and Breakfast.
Sadie's is beautiful. There is a fountain area outside behind the dining room. Our room has a jacuzzi bath tup and a nice shower head. We have wireless internet service.
For $15 more per night per person, they will serve dinner. We had an exquisite cream of vegetable soup, followed by a salad, and then a steak, brown rice, and asparagus with slivered almonds. Delicious!
Dear ones, I'll keep you informed. I don't know whether I am crashing out of energy or having a nice energy period. We'll see as it unfolds.
Mike leaves very early Monday morning, to go back to work. We have a free day tomorrow. Sadie's doesn't serve dinner on Sunday, but they said that there is a really good Japanese restaurant nearby. So we will plan to go there.
Happy New Year to you, and our wishes for a very healthy one as well!
Love,
Carol
